Association of Paschimpara Sports

The Association of Paschimpara Sports (APS) is a non-profit, community-based youth sports governing body headquartered in Paschimpara, Jolpaitola, Baniarchala, Bhabanipur Union, Gazipur Sadar Upazila, Gazipur District, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh (24°10′00.8″N 90°24′48.1″E). Founded on 9 December 2022 by Md. Ismail Hossain, APS serves as the umbrella organization responsible for the administration, regulation, promotion, and long-term development of grassroots sports across the Greater Paschimpara and Baniarchala region.

Established in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, APS was created to rebuild organised sporting activities for children and young people through a structured system of competitions, governance, and community participation. What began as a local football initiative has since developed into a multi-sport association responsible for organising football, cricket, badminton, athletics, kabaddi, educational games, esports, and online competitions under a unified administrative framework.

Operating under the motto "Be 1", the association promotes unity, participation, leadership, and sporting excellence among young athletes. APS primarily focuses on grassroots player development through age-group programmes ranging from Under-8 to Under-16, while planning to introduce Under-7 competitions and expand into Under-18 competitions by 2030.

APS coordinates numerous affiliated federations, leagues, executive departments, community organisations, clubs, and development programmes. Through these bodies, the association oversees player registration, competition management, club licensing, event organisation, finance, information technology, media, documentation, governance, and volunteer coordination.

Unlike a traditional sports club, APS functions as the principal governing body for community sports within its jurisdiction, bringing together multiple sporting disciplines under one administrative structure. Its activities are conducted primarily by volunteers, with operational costs supported through sponsorships, community contributions, registration fees, and local partnerships.

As of 2026, approximately 90 registered athletes participate in APS competitions across various sports. The organisation also works with several affiliated clubs and community teams while continuing to expand its administrative and sporting programmes throughout the Baniarchala area.

Beyond competition, APS emphasises character development, education, discipline, teamwork, community engagement, digital innovation, and responsible leadership. The association aims to create a sustainable pathway for young athletes by combining organised sport with community service, youth empowerment, and modern sports administration.

History

Origins (2019–2022)

The origins of the Association of Paschimpara Sports can be traced to 2019, when Md. Ismail Hossain established an informal youth initiative known as the Bangladesh Youth Academy. The project was conceived to encourage sports participation among children and adolescents living in the Paschimpara area while promoting healthy lifestyles, friendship, and organised recreational activities.

Although the initiative operated on a small community scale, its development was interrupted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Following nationwide restrictions introduced in Bangladesh during March 2020, all sporting activities, training sessions, and community gatherings associated with the academy were suspended indefinitely. As a result, the Bangladesh Youth Academy ceased operations before its long-term organisational plans could be implemented.

Despite the closure, the experience provided valuable lessons regarding community organisation, youth participation, and the importance of structured sports administration. These experiences later influenced the creation of a more comprehensive sports governing body.

Foundation (2022)

Following the gradual recovery from the pandemic, Md. Ismail Hossain initiated plans to establish a new organisation capable of coordinating organised youth sports within Paschimpara and neighbouring communities.

On 9 December 2022, the organisation was officially founded under the name Super December Inter Conference. Initially, it functioned primarily as a football competition established to celebrate community unity and encourage young athletes to return to organised sport after the disruption caused by COVID-19.

The founding tournament marked the beginning of what would later become one of the most ambitious grassroots sports initiatives within the Baniarchala area. Unlike previous informal competitions, the new organisation sought to introduce structured administration, scheduled fixtures, player registration, volunteer management, and community participation.

The date of 9 December subsequently became one of the most significant anniversaries in the organisation's history and remains closely associated with the identity of APS.

Early Football Development (2023)

During early 2023, the organisation began expanding beyond tournament management.

In February 2023, founder Md. Ismail Hossain established the first officially recognised youth football club under the organisation, originally named Gazipur Lion Kings, which was later renamed Gazipur Kings.

Soon afterwards, Gazipur Kings played its inaugural football match against Mohisherchala Football FC, marking an important milestone in organised youth football within the community.

Throughout 2023, increasing numbers of local players, volunteers, and sports enthusiasts became involved in the organisation. The success of football activities encouraged organisers to consider expanding into additional sporting disciplines.

Later that year, APS introduced organised cricket through the inaugural Paschimpara Premier League (PPL) T20 in August 2023. The tournament represented the association's first officially organised cricket competition and laid the foundation for future cricket programmes.

The year also witnessed continued development of administrative procedures, competition regulations, and volunteer management systems.

Organisational Expansion (2024)

During 2024, the organisation entered a period of significant structural reform.

The governing body adopted the name Paschimpara Sports Organization, reflecting its broader role beyond football tournaments.

In February 2024, the concept of a unified governing authority responsible for multiple sports was formally introduced. This marked the beginning of the transition towards what would eventually become the Association of Paschimpara Sports.

The administrative structure was expanded considerably during the year.

Several executive functions—including information technology, media operations, documentation, communications, and organisational planning—were introduced to modernise sports administration.

In June 2024, APS adopted a revised annual season system running from 1 January to 31 December, replacing its earlier competition scheduling model.

The organisation also launched dedicated ICT initiatives aimed at improving digital record keeping, fixture management, communications, and media coverage.

Transition to a Governing Association (2025)

By 2025, the organisation had grown beyond the scope of a local sports organiser.

The governing body temporarily adopted the title Paschimpara Inter Sports Association, reflecting its expanding responsibilities across multiple sporting disciplines and affiliated organisations.

During the same year, APS introduced its official organisational logo, established a more comprehensive administrative identity, and continued developing executive departments responsible for finance, documentation, event management, media, and information technology.

The association also strengthened relationships with affiliated clubs, leagues, and sports communities, laying the foundations for a fully integrated governance structure.

The year marked APS's transition from an event organiser into a community-based sports association responsible for coordinating multiple sports under a single administrative framework.

Formation of the Association of Paschimpara Sports (2026)

On 1 January 2026, the organisation officially adopted its current name, the Association of Paschimpara Sports (APS).

The new identity represented the culmination of several years of organisational development and reflected its role as the umbrella governing body for community sports in the Paschimpara and Baniarchala areas.

Under the new structure, APS became responsible for supervising affiliated federations, sports boards, executive departments, leagues, competitions, clubs, athletes, volunteers, and administrative programmes.

The association's long-term vision includes the establishment of a fully integrated multi-sport system encompassing football, cricket, badminton, athletics, kabaddi, educational games, esports, and digital competitions. A major milestone within this vision is the planned introduction of the Super December Cup Under-18 Championship in 2030, which is intended to serve as the highest level of youth competition organised by APS. The association expects this competition to become the flagship event of its annual sporting calendar while strengthening pathways for talented athletes progressing from grassroots to advanced competitive levels.

APS also seeks to create opportunities for coaches, referees, volunteers, administrators, media personnel, and event organisers, recognising that successful sports development depends not only on athletes but also on capable and dedicated support systems.

Association Football

Association football is the oldest, largest, and most developed sport organised by APS. Football formed the foundation upon which the organisation itself was established in December 2022 and remains the association's flagship sporting discipline.

The football programme is administered by the Paschimpara Football Association (PFA), while league competitions are organised through the Paschimpara Football League (PPFL). APS considers football an essential platform for introducing children and adolescents to organised sport, with a strong emphasis on technical development, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Football competitions are structured according to age categories to ensure appropriate opportunities for player development. Beyond league competition, APS also organises cup tournaments, exhibition matches, community fixtures, and anniversary events that celebrate the association's founding and promote local participation.

Cricket

Cricket is the second major sport administered by APS and is governed through the Board of Paschimpara Cricket (BPC). Official cricket activities began in August 2023 with the inauguration of the Paschimpara Premier League (PPL) T20, representing the association's first organised cricket competition.

Since its introduction, cricket has experienced steady growth within the APS sporting community. The association organises tournaments, maintains player registrations, develops local teams, and seeks to expand participation among young cricketers across the Baniarchala area.

APS intends to broaden its cricket programme by introducing additional age-group competitions, coaching initiatives, and annual championships, while maintaining standards of fair play and community participation.

Badminton

Badminton is administered by the Paschimpara Badminton Federation (PFB) and represents one of the association's fastest-growing indoor sports. APS promotes badminton as an accessible activity that encourages physical fitness, coordination, and healthy competition.

The federation is responsible for organising community leagues, youth tournaments, and seasonal competitions while also maintaining player registrations and technical regulations. By expanding badminton opportunities, APS aims to increase sporting participation among students and young people throughout the region.

Athletics

Athletics is governed by the Athletics Confederation of Paschimpara (ACP), which promotes physical fitness and organised track-and-field activities. APS views athletics as a fundamental component of youth development because it encourages endurance, speed, strength, and overall physical well-being.

Competitions currently include sprint races, cycling events, and community fitness programmes. Future plans include expanding athletics into additional disciplines such as long-distance running, field events, relay competitions, and youth athletic festivals.

Kabaddi

Kabaddi forms part of APS's commitment to preserving and promoting traditional South Asian sports alongside internationally recognised disciplines. Through the proposed Kabaddi Pro League, the association intends to encourage participation in one of Bangladesh's most culturally significant games.

The kabaddi programme seeks to combine traditional sporting values with modern competition management, offering opportunities for young athletes to develop physical strength, tactical awareness, and teamwork.

APS expects kabaddi to become an increasingly important component of its annual sporting calendar as participation expands in the coming years.

Educational Games

In addition to physical sports, APS recognises the importance of intellectual development through organised educational competitions. Educational Games are designed to complement athletic activities by encouraging creativity, knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving among participants.

These activities may include quizzes, spelling competitions, mathematics challenges, science contests, general knowledge events, and other educational programmes organised in collaboration with community volunteers and educational institutions.

APS believes that sporting excellence and academic development should progress together, reflecting the association's broader commitment to youth development.

Esports

Recognising the growing influence of digital technology in modern sport, APS has introduced esports as one of its officially recognised disciplines. The esports programme is intended to provide organised and responsibly managed digital competition for young participants while promoting teamwork, strategic thinking, and digital literacy.

The association plans to develop structured esports tournaments governed by appropriate regulations concerning fair competition, participant eligibility, online conduct, and technological standards. Oversight of these activities is supported by the Information and Communication Technology Organization of Paschimpara Sports (ICTOPS).

Online Competitions

APS also organises a variety of online competitions designed to increase participation beyond traditional sporting environments. These competitions provide opportunities for community engagement regardless of geographical location or weather conditions.

Online activities may include virtual tournaments, digital quizzes, creative contests, sports knowledge competitions, and community challenges conducted through digital platforms.
